Bridgie, son of Ken Bridgwater, a highly regarded trainer, left home to be apprentice for Lester Piggott aged 14. Having grown too big for the flat Bridgie had a successful career as a conditional for David Nicholson and Nigel Twiston-Davies before landing the top job as first jockey to Martin Pipe. Bridgie was second in the jump jockeys championship. Sadly injury ended Bridgie’s career aged 27, having ridden 473 winners in England and abroad , including 5 festival winners .
Bridgie has been married to wife Lucy for 19 years and has two children named George and Poppy; who has a flat amateur licence. Starting a training career in 1998 Bridgie’s first national hunt and flat runners both came home winners. Rake Hey winning at Kempton Park and Dargo winning at Wolverhampton. Bridgie has now been training for sixteen years and is more passionate and forthright than ever.
