These remarkable equines are bred for a singular purpose: to race. As a result, their training regimen stands in stark contrast to the everyday care received by most horses. In this article, we'll explore how training Thoroughbred horses differs from normal horse care, shedding light on the unique demands and techniques involved in preparing these exceptional athletes for the racetrack.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Specialized Breeding</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Thoroughbred racing begins with breeding. Unlike ordinary horse care, where breed selection is based on various factors like temperament and suitability for riding or work, Thoroughbred breeding focuses primarily on speed and stamina. Bloodlines, pedigree, and conformation are meticulously scrutinized to create the ideal racehorse. Breeding programs aim to produce horses with a genetic predisposition for speed and endurance.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Early Start to Training</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Normal horse care typically involves gentle handling and groundwork for young horses, with the emphasis on building trust and basic skills. Thoroughbred training, however, begins at a very early age. Foals are often handled within hours of birth, and they undergo early training to establish a foundation for racing.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Intensive Exercise and Conditioning</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Thoroughbred horses undergo rigorous exercise regimens that set them apart from the average horse. These athletes spend hours on the track, alternating between sprinting and long gallops to build both speed and endurance. Treadmills, equine swimming pools, and high-tech training facilities are commonly used to help them reach peak physical condition.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Specialized Nutrition</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The dietary needs of Thoroughbred racehorses differ significantly from those of normal horses. To support their intense training and racing schedules, Thoroughbreds require carefully balanced nutrition. They receive custom-made diets tailored to their individual needs, with precise ratios of protein, carbohydrates, and vitamins.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Regular Veterinary Care</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">While all horses benefit from regular veterinary care, Thoroughbreds receive a higher level of attention due to their demanding athletic careers. Regular check-ups, vaccinations, and specialized treatments are essential to maintain their health and prevent injuries.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Shoeing and Hoof Care</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Thoroughbred racehorses undergo frequent farrier visits for specialized shoeing and hoof care. Racing shoes are designed to provide traction and support during high-speed races, and their application is a critical part of a Thoroughbred's care routine.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Extensive Grooming</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Daily grooming is a staple in horse care, but for Thoroughbreds, it takes on added importance. Maintaining a Thoroughbred's coat, skin, and overall appearance is essential, as they often appear in front of crowds and media during races. Grooming also helps trainers and handlers to monitor the horse's physical condition and spot any potential issues early.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Mental Training</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">In addition to physical conditioning, Thoroughbred racehorses undergo mental training to prepare them for the unique stresses of the racetrack. They are exposed to various stimuli, including starting gate practice, loud noises, and the presence of other horses to help them remain calm and focused during races.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Conclusion</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Training Thoroughbred horses is a highly specialized and demanding endeavor that sets it apart from normal horse care. The pursuit of speed and success on the racetrack drives every aspect of their upbringing, from breeding and nutrition to exercise and mental conditioning. While the lives of Thoroughbred racehorses may seem intense, they are a testament to the dedication and passion of those involved in the racing industry. These exceptional equines are the result of careful planning, precise training, and unwavering commitment to their unique needs, making them some of the most captivating and extraordinary athletes in the world of horse racing.

Behind the scenes, a host of expenses add up to mold these magnificent creatures into athletes of extraordinary prowess. In the United Kingdom, a nation renowned for its rich equestrian heritage, the costs associated with training a thoroughbred horse are considerable. In this article, we delve into the top seven expenses that owners and trainers must grapple with as they strive to shape these equine marvels.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Purchase Price: </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The first significant outlay in owning a thoroughbred horse is acquiring the animal itself. Prices for thoroughbreds can range from thousands to millions of pounds, depending on various factors such as bloodlines, age, and track record. Owners looking to secure a promising racing prospect must be prepared to invest a substantial sum upfront.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Boarding and Stabling: </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Providing a comfortable and safe environment for the horse is paramount. Stabling costs cover the daily care, feeding, and lodging of the horse. Top-quality facilities with state-of-the-art amenities, such as premium bedding, spacious stalls, and round-the-clock care, can demand a considerable monthly fee.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Training Fees: </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Thoroughbred horses require expert training from skilled professionals to hone their racing abilities. Training fees encompass the expertise of trainers, exercise riders, and grooms, who work tirelessly to develop the horse's physical fitness, stamina, and racing skills. These fees typically vary based on the reputation and success rate of the training establishment.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Veterinary Care: </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Maintaining the health and well-being of a thoroughbred horse is an ongoing concern. Regular veterinary visits, vaccinations, dental care, and diagnostic tests are essential for ensuring optimal performance. Moreover, unexpected injuries or illnesses can quickly escalate the costs, as specialized treatments, medications, and rehabilitation can be exorbitantly expensive.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Farrier and Hoof Care: </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Proper hoof care is vital for a thoroughbred's overall health and performance. Farriers are skilled professionals who trim and shoe the horse's hooves regularly, ensuring correct balance and minimizing the risk of injury. The costs associated with farrier services can vary depending on the horse's needs, with additional expenses for corrective shoeing or specialized treatments.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Transportation: </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Thoroughbred horses often need to travel for training, races, and sales. Transporting these majestic creatures requires specialized vehicles equipped with comfortable and secure compartments. Expenses related to transportation include fuel, insurance, maintenance, and hiring professional handlers to ensure the horse's well-being during transit.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Insurance: </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Insurance is a crucial aspect of protecting the significant investments made in thoroughbred horses. Policies can cover mortality, loss of use, veterinary expenses, and even loss of income due to injury or illness. The cost of insurance depends on the horse's value, age, health, and intended use, with premiums often running into thousands of pounds annually.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Conclusion: </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Training a thoroughbred horse in the UK demands financial commitment on multiple fronts. From the initial purchase price to ongoing expenses for stabling, training, veterinary care, and more, the costs associated with nurturing these equine athletes can be substantial. However, for those captivated by the allure of horse racing, the satisfaction of witnessing a well-trained thoroughbred thundering down the track is an unparalleled reward. The pursuit of excellence in this sport requires dedication, a deep appreciation for these majestic creatures, and a willingness to bear the financial burdens that come with them.</span></div></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Photo: Born To Rock (Great Yarmouth) Copyright Jason Coote 2023 All Rights Reserved</span></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489712431603860135.post-52463585458525169102024-02-14T19:55:00.000+00:002024-02-14T19:55:27.783+00:00Which Horse Trainers Are At Lambourn? <span style="font-family: helvetica;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8d1rBtAF3NNIL98lpfl-yfj4ZR3LCxqUp39w9_9hhpH_cdwOsREp249XKFmyn69SztynDKurMFyj4Cc0f1ttcqbfv3MBHonNjQ4IixjC4Y0YamnB20WYTubn5frWQVFIS-J-KV5y9iGd_UE_gmwUJYJsLrZYU4I2NqmE3UDBM1nanCYjZqcQv0bz_/s1280/lambourn%20horse%20trainers%20pix.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Lambourn Horse Trainers" border="0" data-original-height="853" data-original-width="1280" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8d1rBtAF3NNIL98lpfl-yfj4ZR3LCxqUp39w9_9hhpH_cdwOsREp249XKFmyn69SztynDKurMFyj4Cc0f1ttcqbfv3MBHonNjQ4IixjC4Y0YamnB20WYTubn5frWQVFIS-J-KV5y9iGd_UE_gmwUJYJsLrZYU4I2NqmE3UDBM1nanCYjZqcQv0bz_/w320-h213/lambourn%20horse%20trainers%20pix.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Lambourn, nestled in the picturesque Berkshire Downs of England, has long been recognized as a hub for horse racing, with a rich history and a legacy that resonates in every hoofbeat on its training grounds. It's ideal for getting the inside edge when betting on the horses. With four talented horses running for you, it's a perfect time to make this new Flat turf season something out of the ordinary. There will be plenty of opportunities to go racing this year. The correspondence is great. Julia keeps you informed of the horses and their chances on the day. Go racing in style: Collecting your Owners/Trainers badge(s); gaining entry to all those parts of the racecourse which once seemed the province of the rich and famous. You will be that VIP. Rub shoulders with the great and good: meeting Julia and the team in the paddock, shake hands with the jockey, listen to the pre-race talk, then watching your horse run like the wind. A thoroughbred racehorse isn't merely an athlete; it's a finely tuned machine honed through meticulous training regimens, expert care, and an understanding of the intricate balance between physical prowess and mental fortitude. This article delves into the multifaceted process of training a thoroughbred racehorse with the ultimate goal of securing victory on the track.</span><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Understanding the Thoroughbred Athlete</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Thoroughbreds are a breed apart, revered for their speed, agility, and spirit. Successful training begins with a profound understanding of the individual horse. Trainers assess a horse's conformation, temperament, and genetic predispositions to tailor a training program that maximizes its potential. Each horse is unique, requiring a personalized approach to nurture its strengths and address its weaknesses.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Physical Conditioning</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">At the heart of racehorse training is physical conditioning. Building stamina, strength, and speed is a gradual process that starts in the early years of a horse's life. Young horses undergo foundational training, including lunging, longeing, and basic exercises to develop muscle tone and coordination. As they mature, trainers introduce more specialized workouts, such as interval training and hill work, to enhance cardiovascular fitness and strength.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Trackwork is a crucial component of training. Horses gallop, breeze, and undertake timed workouts to familiarize themselves with the track environment and develop the necessary cardiovascular and muscular adaptations for racing. The timing of workouts is a delicate balance, ensuring horses peak in fitness on race day.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Nutrition and Health Management</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">A well-balanced diet is paramount for a racehorse's performance. Nutritionists work closely with trainers to create individualized feeding plans that provide the necessary energy, nutrients, and supplements tailored to a horse's specific needs. Regular veterinary check-ups and preventive care are essential to address any health concerns promptly and maintain the horse's optimal condition.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Mental Conditioning</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Beyond physical prowess, a winning racehorse must possess mental fortitude. Trainers employ various techniques to instill discipline, focus, and a winning mindset. Exposure to different stimuli, such as crowds and noise, helps horses acclimate to the bustling race day atmosphere. The bond between horse and rider is nurtured through consistent training, fostering trust and communication crucial for success on the track.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Simulation and Strategy</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Thoroughbred racehorses are not just sprinters; they are strategic athletes. Trainers simulate race scenarios during workouts, teaching horses to navigate the complexities of a competitive field. Learning to respond to cues from jockeys, conserve energy, and execute a final surge requires a combination of physical conditioning and mental acuity.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Race Tactics</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">In the lead-up to a race, trainers meticulously plan race tactics. Analyzing competitors, understanding track conditions, and strategizing when to make a move are integral to success. Jockeys play a pivotal role in executing these tactics, requiring a seamless partnership between horse and rider.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Conclusion</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Training a thoroughbred racehorse to victory is a harmonious symphony of physical conditioning, mental fortitude, and strategic planning. It's an art that recognizes the individuality of each horse and a science that leverages the latest advancements in equine research. As the racing world continues to evolve, trainers find new ways to push the boundaries of performance, ensuring that each racehorse stands poised on the precipice of greatness, ready to gallop into the annals of racing history.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Photo: Pixabay (free) </span></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489712431603860135.post-9969080131885481852023-11-25T18:59:00.003+00:002023-11-25T19:01:22.205+00:00The Delicate Dance: The Connection Between Horse Trainers and Turf Accountants in the World of Horse Racing<span style="font-family: helvetica;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh312LnWlV4RYbL89-PPY4VzmGO3m0K_jBBH5f-oEmv-sbJD5Ej-HUcw33GHPjhp3vTM-Gh5cRpjS3LKTngSib843oBA-61B81qRQExS_t-jZyu6ubny6KmLDj5UxcjGN7XnmOF_GpYAOTMZ4lScFNaRul-4juaGe9LcJyk3jLRvz2htZh_cEggK3Ch/s1338/Born%20To%20Rock%20wins%20at%20Yarmouth2.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="The Delicate Dance: The Connection Between Horse Trainers and Turf Accountants in the World of Horse Racing" border="0" data-original-height="1338" data-original-width="1210" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh312LnWlV4RYbL89-PPY4VzmGO3m0K_jBBH5f-oEmv-sbJD5Ej-HUcw33GHPjhp3vTM-Gh5cRpjS3LKTngSib843oBA-61B81qRQExS_t-jZyu6ubny6KmLDj5UxcjGN7XnmOF_GpYAOTMZ4lScFNaRul-4juaGe9LcJyk3jLRvz2htZh_cEggK3Ch/w289-h320/Born%20To%20Rock%20wins%20at%20Yarmouth2.jpg" width="289" /></a></div>In the high-stakes world of horse racing, where fortunes are won and lost with each thundering hoofbeat, the connection between horse trainers and turf accountants has long been a topic of intrigue. It's a delicate dance, a symbiotic relationship that teeters on the edge of legality, as trainers hold the keys to a treasure trove of insider information that can make or break a bet. This article explores the complex web of connections between horse trainers and turf accountants, delving into the issues of inside information and the privileges that often accompany this relationship.</div></span><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The Power of Insider Information</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Horse trainers are the custodians of a wealth of insider information that can significantly influence the outcome of a race. They have intimate knowledge of a horse's form, fitness, and temperament — details that are often not available to the general public. This privileged information can give them a distinct advantage when it comes to placing bets or advising others in the industry.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">T</span><span style="font-family: helvetica;">he relationship between trainers and turf accountants often revolves around the exchange of such valuable information. Trainers may share insights on a horse's recent performance in training, any health concerns, or even strategic plans for an upcoming race. This exchange of information, when used judiciously, can be mutually beneficial. Turf accountants gain an edge in setting odds, while trainers may receive financial incentives or other perks in return.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Regulatory Challenges.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">While the sharing of information between trainers and turf accountants may be common, it raises significant ethical and legal concerns. Insider information can distort the level playing field that is crucial for fair competition in the horse racing industry. Regulatory bodies are tasked with maintaining the integrity of the sport and ensuring that all participants adhere to strict standards of conduct.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">In many jurisdictions, the sharing of non-public information for the purpose of gaining a betting advantage is strictly prohibited. Regulatory bodies often impose severe penalties, including fines and suspension, on trainers found guilty of providing inside information to turf accountants. This underscores the need for a robust regulatory framework to police and deter such practices.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The Gray Areas</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Despite the clear regulatory guidelines, the connection between horse trainers and turf accountants often operates in the gray areas of the law. Trainers may argue that their relationship with bookmakers is based on mutual respect and a shared passion for the sport. They may contend that sharing information is an inevitable part of the industry and does not necessarily confer an unfair advantage.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">In some cases, trainers may receive perks that fall within legal boundaries, such as hospitality invitations to prestigious racing events or access to exclusive facilities. These privileges, while not directly related to betting, can create an atmosphere where the line between acceptable and unacceptable behavior becomes blurred.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Conclusion</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The connection between horse trainers and turf accountants remains a nuanced and contentious aspect of the horse racing world. While the exchange of information is inherent in the industry, the challenge lies in distinguishing between acceptable practices and those that compromise the integrity of the sport. Regulators face the ongoing task of striking a balance that ensures fair competition while allowing for the healthy relationships that make the horse racing community thrive. As the industry evolves, it is essential to continually reassess and strengthen regulatory measures to uphold the principles of transparency and fairness that lie at the heart of horse racing.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Photo: J.Coote (2023 - All Right Reserved) </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Note: Photo has no connection with the story </span></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489712431603860135.post-11550519880873974302023-10-18T13:49:00.000+01:002023-10-18T13:49:21.378+01:00Galloping to Victory: Horse Racing and Gambling-Themed Game Boards<span style="font-family: helvetica;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIioiamL3SlFKo6xUOk1AnVkjs0wlsK2M7_wzTUKrFpIfGRxMGEBm3VweyOtszCsCr1oTNCauFsNLcdpucQIUAapZeyGD5W3e8lC6uKvr9uLzfDpffiffKpnKD9OXqyefuQDept4dq5Rno2LxsAjUKudQ4VmXVIEoDLHlwHWtaXwvJPy2ASuzqj_sk/s1280/horse%20racing%20game%20pix.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Galloping to Victory: Horse Racing and Gambling-Themed Game Boards" border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="1280" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIioiamL3SlFKo6xUOk1AnVkjs0wlsK2M7_wzTUKrFpIfGRxMGEBm3VweyOtszCsCr1oTNCauFsNLcdpucQIUAapZeyGD5W3e8lC6uKvr9uLzfDpffiffKpnKD9OXqyefuQDept4dq5Rno2LxsAjUKudQ4VmXVIEoDLHlwHWtaXwvJPy2ASuzqj_sk/w320-h240/horse%20racing%20game%20pix.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Introduction</span><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Game boards come in all shapes and sizes, catering to a wide range of interests and themes. It's a thrilling endeavor that offers the chance to be part of the exciting world of horse racing. However, for those who may not have the means to fully own a racehorse, joining a syndicate is a viable alternative. In this article, we will explore the pros and cons of racehorse ownership compared to that of a syndicate.</span><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Racehorse Ownership</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Pros:</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Full Control: When you own a racehorse outright, you have complete control over the horse's training, racing schedule, and breeding decisions. This level of autonomy allows you to pursue your vision for the horse without needing to consult with other stakeholders.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Prestige and Recognition: Being the sole owner of a racehorse can bring significant prestige and recognition within the horse racing community. Your name will be associated with the horse's success, which can be a source of pride.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Potential for Greater Financial Returns: While owning a racehorse can be costly, the potential for financial returns through winnings and breeding fees can be substantial if the horse performs well.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Cons:</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">High Costs: Owning a racehorse entails significant expenses, including purchase price, training fees, veterinary bills, and ongoing maintenance costs. It's a financial commitment that can be challenging to sustain.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Risk of Losses: The horse racing industry is inherently unpredictable, and there's no guarantee that your horse will be successful on the track. Many racehorse owners experience losses, making it a risky investment.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Time-Consuming: Managing a racehorse, including overseeing its training and racing career, can be incredibly time-consuming. It may require a dedicated lifestyle that can interfere with other commitments.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx91E-enQHX8WygiUID5UKebyvkZIf3f4a0hJ3V2z20UQS3hO5VgybRZiT1EK_-xpQziROW-_MlVxqpctS6smN3K5ukZ45vaqwOhVzRRNWdruK-jCRra2pPVPEI3dJSKbbtK6Dmk36PjKDe_UgZhZbuX2G2ti-IZEzH9-b4dBephAlvo5SG7_XhZWi/s746/yarmouth%20racing%20photo%20jc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Racehorse Ownership vs. Syndicates: Weighing the Pros and Cons" border="0" data-original-height="658" data-original-width="746" height="353" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx91E-enQHX8WygiUID5UKebyvkZIf3f4a0hJ3V2z20UQS3hO5VgybRZiT1EK_-xpQziROW-_MlVxqpctS6smN3K5ukZ45vaqwOhVzRRNWdruK-jCRra2pPVPEI3dJSKbbtK6Dmk36PjKDe_UgZhZbuX2G2ti-IZEzH9-b4dBephAlvo5SG7_XhZWi/w400-h353/yarmouth%20racing%20photo%20jc.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>Syndicates</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Pros:</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Lower Financial Barrier: Joining a syndicate allows individuals to become racehorse owners without the hefty financial burden of sole ownership. Syndicate members share the costs, making it a more accessible option.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Shared Risk: Syndicate members collectively absorb the risks associated with racehorse ownership. If the horse doesn't perform well or incurs unexpected expenses, the financial impact is distributed among the members.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Social Experience: Being part of a syndicate can be a social and enjoyable experience, as it allows individuals to connect with like-minded horse racing enthusiasts. Sharing the journey with others can enhance the enjoyment of horse ownership.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Cons:</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Limited Control: Syndicate members typically have less control over the horse's management decisions. Key choices, such as race selection and breeding, are often made by a syndicate manager or trainer, which may not align with individual preferences.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Shared Success: While sharing financial risks is an advantage, it also means sharing any financial rewards. If the horse performs exceptionally well, the winnings are divided among syndicate members, potentially reducing the individual return on investment.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Decision-Making Challenges: Syndicate ownership requires consensus among members on important decisions. This can sometimes lead to conflicts or disagreements, delaying actions that could benefit the horse's career.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Conclusion</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Racehorse ownership and syndicates each have their own set of advantages and disadvantages. The choice between the two depends on your financial capabilities, level of commitment, and desire for control. Sole ownership provides autonomy but comes with significant costs and risks, while syndicates offer a more accessible entry point but may require compromise and shared success.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Ultimately, the decision should be based on your personal goals and preferences within the exciting world of horse racing. Whether you choose to go solo or become part of a syndicate, the thrill of owning a racehorse and participating in the sport can be a rewarding experience filled with ups and downs, triumphs, and challenges.

However, recent years have witnessed a disheartening trend: a growing number of experienced trainers have chosen to abandon their craft. In this article, we delve into the five primary factors that have contributed to this decline, shedding light on the challenges faced by UK thoroughbred horse trainers.
Escalating Costs:
One of the key reasons for trainers relinquishing their profession is the relentless surge in costs associated with running a successful stable. Rising expenses for maintaining facilities, feed, veterinary care, transportation, and insurance place an enormous financial burden on trainers. Many find it increasingly difficult to balance their books, particularly when faced with fluctuations in prize money and the ever-increasing competition for top-tier horses. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Stringent Regulations: </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The thoroughbred racing industry in the UK is governed by rigorous regulations, aimed at ensuring fair competition and maintaining the welfare of horses. While these rules serve a noble purpose, they have become increasingly complex and burdensome for trainers to navigate. Constant paperwork, mandatory inspections, and compliance requirements leave trainers with little time to focus on their core expertise: training horses. This mounting bureaucracy can be discouraging and drive many trainers to reconsider their commitment to the profession.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Limited Earnings Potential: </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Despite the immense dedication and effort invested in training racehorses, the earnings potential for trainers remains limited. A considerable portion of trainers' income is derived from a percentage of the prize money won by their horses. However, with increasing competition, the chances of consistently winning lucrative races have dwindled. Additionally, trainers are subject to significant overhead costs, staff wages, and the demands of owning and maintaining a training facility. As a result, the financial rewards often fall short of expectations, leaving many trainers disillusioned.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Scarce Availability of Top-Tier Horses:</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The success of a trainer largely hinges upon the quality of horses under their care. However, the UK thoroughbred industry has witnessed a decline in the availability of top-tier horses. The scarcity of well-bred, talented horses with the potential for success at elite racing events creates a competitive environment where trainers must vie for a limited pool of prospects. Securing such horses often requires considerable financial investment or established connections, making it challenging for aspiring trainers to establish themselves in the industry.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Demanding Lifestyle: </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Training racehorses demands an unwavering commitment of time, energy, and personal sacrifices. Trainers often find themselves working long hours, seven days a week, to ensure the welfare and success of their horses. The demands of the profession can be physically and mentally exhausting, leaving little time for personal life or family commitments. The challenging lifestyle takes a toll on trainers' well-being, leading some to seek alternative careers with more balanced work-life dynamics.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Conclusion: </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The departure of many UK thoroughbred horse trainers from the profession is a reflection of the multifaceted challenges they face. Escalating costs, stringent regulations, limited earnings potential, scarcity of top-tier horses, and the demanding lifestyle all contribute to the decline in trainer numbers. Recognizing these challenges and exploring solutions to address them is crucial to ensure the sustainability and vitality of the UK's thoroughbred racing industry. Only by addressing these issues collectively can we create an environment that supports and encourages talented trainers to continue their invaluable contributions to this cherished sport.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Photo: Jason Coote (Copyright 2023) All Rights Reserved</span></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489712431603860135.post-71072981581645734612023-06-21T13:32:00.000+01:002023-06-21T13:32:49.091+01:00Kevin Philippart de Foy in Winning Form <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">Remarkable! <p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">As an avid follower of horse racing I scan the race card on a daily basis. Then I stop at an unfamiliar name. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Kevin Phillippart de Foy. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">It was April, an early two-year-old race. Pokhara, ridden by Daniel Muscutt. A bay filly, a daughter of The Gurkha, in the ownership of the Run Away Racing Himalayan Syndicate. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">They sound my kind of people!</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">This £15,000 yearling purchase, out of an unraced dam made her debut at Yarmouth, a 20/1 shot finishing fifth of five. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Another trainer with high hopes and limited ammunition? </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Based at Machell Place, Newmarket, Suffolk, it would have been easy to say: ''Here today, gone tomorrow.''</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">However, this exceptional young trainer could well be one of those few handlers which hits the <a href="https://www.online-bingo.tv/"><b>jackpot</b></a>. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">My specialist niche is two-year-old horse racing and I follow each and every season like a black taxi cab driver revises the knowledge. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">I've been very impressed with Kevin Philippart de Foy's formative season. In fact, as a rookie trainer he reminds me very much of Archie Watson when he made an impact in 2016. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">At the time of writing (21/07/2021) he has sent out just 10 two-year-old horses. For any trainer winners are hard to find. Having the talent to ready a debutante really takes a lot of skill. It's the reason most established trainers have so few horses hitting the frame when making their racecourse bow let alone winning in style. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Taking a quick glance at the juveniles he has raced so far for the 2021 season:</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Two-year-olds: Winners underlined</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>April: </b></span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Pokhara 5th </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Smooth Talking 3rd </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>June: </b></span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><u>Rock Melody 1st </u></span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Giewont 8th </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Mehmentum 3rd </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Bailysgutfeeling 4th </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>July: </b></span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><u>New Pursuit 1st </u></span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Unexpected Arrival 5th </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><u>Scot's Grace 1st </u></span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><u>Pearl Glory 1st </u></span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">I will update his results until the end of the turf season. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Comments: That's a 40% win strike rate with his debutantes. From experience, any two-year-old that wins on debut is often good enough to dip its toe into pattern class. That was seen with <b>Rock Melody</b> who thrashed his rivals on debut at Redcar. The 16/1 shot stormed clear by over three-lengths winning comfortably. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">I bet against this filly and cursing: <i>''Who is this bloke!'' </i></span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">This is what the Racing Post had to say: <i>''Raced freely, held up in behind leaders, headway going easily two out, ridden to lead 1f out, soon edged right, went clear inside final furlong, easily.'' </i></span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">She contested the Maureen Brittain Memorial Empress Fillies' Stakes (Listed Race) at Newmarket over 6f on good to firm going (20th June, 2021) finishing a respectable 10th, beaten just over five lengths. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Make no mistake, you will be hearing a lot about Kevin Philippart de Foy this season let alone years to come. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Take note of his other debut winners: </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>New Pursuit </b></span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Impressive when winning well on debut at Epsom by over two-lengths. This son of New Bay, a steal at 30,000g as a yearling. In the ownership of Run Away Racing Quest Syndicate. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Scot's Grac</b></span><b style="font-family: helvetica;">e</b></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">This daughter of Mehmas literally flew home when making her debut at Kempton. In the ownership of Bernard Havern, bred by Tally-Ho Stud, this bay filly was picked up for pocket money at the Tattersalls Ire Goresbridge Breeze Up @ Nmkt for £15,000. A four-and-a-quarter length victory, Scot's Grace stamped herself as a live chance for Group race success.

Another inspired breeze-up purchase by this young trainer for just £12,000, from vendor Hyde Park Stud. She was purchased on the 3rd June and bringing home the bacon on the 14th July. Today's competitions are friendly, so you don't need to engage in combat to demonstrate your bravery.</span><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">To perform as a successful team, however, in the sport of horse racing, a deep link between a human and an animal is required. Who are the notable horsemen who have distinguished themselves from the rest, and how did this system of comparing forces come to be? Now we'll tell you about it.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">By the way, if you are interested in <a href="https://www.busr.ag/kentucky-derby/betting" target="_blank">Kentucky Derby Betting</a> about horse racing or thinking about how to go about placing bets on the most prestigious event that features famous horses, it'd be helpful to check the link above for the best information available on this subject.
Five famous jockeys of the 20th century.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">1979 Epsom Derby Mr Lester Piggott <a href="https://t.co/6jRtKC9m7x">pic.twitter.com/6jRtKC9m7x</a></p>— History of Horse Racing (@horsevault) <a href="https://twitter.com/horsevault/status/1643306951541940244?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 4, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async="" charset="utf-8" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script><b>1. Lester Piggott</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">We are going to the UK to see another of the most famous racing jockeys. With a height of 173 cm, Lester Piggott stands out among his rivals as a true "giant," earning the moniker "The Tall Fellow." He was born in Wantage, Berkshire, in 1935. He was forced to pursue these interests because he was born into a family of horsemen.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Lester Piggott set a record-breaking 100 victories in a single season, making him the sport's youngest rider at the time. During his professional career, he won the Epson Derby eight more times after taking first place at age 18. Along with winning the Singapore Derby, Piggott also won the Ascot Gold Cup 11 times, the July Cup 10 times, the St Leger Stakes 8 times, the Irish Derby 5 times, the German Derby 3 times and the July Cup 10 times.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">He kept winning until the age of 59 when he claimed the final triumph of his professional career. He retired in 1995 at the amazing age of 60, demonstrating his passion and dedication to horse racing. The "Oscar" horsemen's prizes were named in his honour. But that comes as no surprise. We are discussing one of the greatest jockeys in history, after all.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>2. Laffit A. Pincay Jr</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Laffit A. Pincay Jr., born in Panama City in 1946, is our first notable athlete. In Panama, he mostly participated in horse racing. But reputable breeder Fred W. Hooper recognised his promise and brought Laffit to America, where he rose to become one of the greatest jockeys in history.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">He rode professionally for 40 years, winning nearly all of the most significant American competitions. In addition, he won nine Hollywood Gold Cup races, three Belmont Stakes races, and one Kentucky Derby race. Laffit A. Pincay Jr. left the world of professional horse racing in 2003.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">A statue of Laffit A. Pincay Jr. may be found at the Santa Anita Park racecourse in Arcadia, California. His name appears on the list of jockeys inducted into the National Museum of Racing's Hall of Fame, and he receives recognition as an important inductee into the National Horsemen's Hall of Fame each year.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>3. William “Bill” Shoemaker</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">In this instance, we are discussing a real hero—both on the racecourse and in real life. William Lee Shoemaker, also known as Bill Shoemaker, has demonstrated his strength and fortitude from his birth in 1931, surviving despite weighing just 1 kilogramme at birth. But after that, this wonderful little man, who lived for 72 years, rose to fame as one of the notable riders we list in our current ranking.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">His success on the racecourse was largely due to his short stature of only 149 cm. At the age of 18, Bill Shoemaker started his professional career. A year later, in 1950, he had already claimed the title of U.S. Champion Jockey for the first time; he would ultimately win the honour five times.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">He made the decision to give up riding professionally in 1990 and focus only on horse training. However, he faced still another personal obstacle because of the 1991 vehicle accident that left him paralysed below the neck.
One of the most well-known jockeys in the world for 40 years, Bill Shoemaker won numerous races during his time in the racing arena. Bill has to his name three U.S. Classics, the 1987 Breeders' Cup Classic trophy, the Del Mar Handicap trophy, the Oak Three Invitational Handicap trophy, while the Santa Anita Derby and the Hollywood Gold Cup were also in his trophy cabinet..... </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>4. Russell Baze</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Russell Baze, an American rider, has more than 12,800 victories to his name. In 2006, he even outperformed Laffit A. Pincay Jr. in terms of winning scores. But the latter is ranked highest.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">At the age of 16, he won his first race at the Yakima racecourse in Walla Walla, Washington, launching his professional career. But even at a young age, his future success could already be foreseen, and the top racing jockeys in North America recognised his aptitude. He demonstrated that, despite being 52 years old, he still had more to prove and merited his place among the greatest riders in history by winning the San Francisco Breeders Club Mile in 2010.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">In terms of brilliant talent recognition, Baze has his name on both the Eclipse Special Award and the George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award. Also in 199, the American jockey was inducted into the American Racing Hall of Fame.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">5. Jerry D. Bailey</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Jerry Bailey is another well-known American jockey who was born in 1957 in Texas. Bailey's professional career as a horse rider kicked off with one of his victories at New Mexico's Sunland Park racecourse in 1974. This American jockey has won all there is to won in American traditional races. This includes the Dubai World Cup series in 1996, 1997, 2001, and 2002 respectively. He came back to winning ways after a long break of placing to don the Prince of Wales Stakes in 2020.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">He was inducted into the American Racing Hall of Fame in 1995, joining other notable figures. In addition, he won the George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award in 1992 and the Eclipse Award seven times in the Outstanding Jockey category. He presently provides commentary for ESPN's coverage of horse races.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Jerry Bailey donned a helmet with advertising patches to the Kentucky Derby in 2004, which sparked a paradigm shift and made it possible for riders to advertise for companies.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">That is all we have about the 5 famous jockeys of the 20th century. We thank you for taking the time to read this article! 😊

The sport is also popular in music, with songs like 'My Old Kentucky Home' becoming iconic tunes associated with horse racing events.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>How technology has changed horse racing over time</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Horse racing was largely dependent on manual labour and human judgment a century ago. However, with the advent of modern technology, many aspects of horse racing have changed drastically.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Computers are now used to track horses’ performance data in real time. This allows trainers to make more informed decisions about which horses should be <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/racing/article-11922183/Wonder-horse-Constitution-Hill-switch-chasing-Aintree-Hurdle-month.html" target="_blank">entered into races</a> and how they should be trained.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Computerised systems are also used to monitor horses’ health and well-being during races. That’s why we love it so much. Here, we are going to look at some of the most iconic moments in Cheltenham Festival history...</span><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>A Very Expensive Fall</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Famous jockey, Ruby Walsh looked all set to win. She was riding the stunning runner Annie Power in the Mares' Hurdle in 2015 and looked fully in control.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">But nothing is ever certain until the finish line is crossed and, at the very final obstacle, it all went wrong. The Willie Mullins-trained horse literally fell at the final hurdle. However, falls like this can cost any person that chooses to bet on Cheltenham a lot of money… and so it did. It was said to be ‘the most expensive fall in racing history’. It apparently saved bookmakers a massive £50 million. Bookmakers tend to offer <a href="https://www.gambling.com/uk/betting-sites/horse-racing/cheltenham-offers" target="_blank">some exclusive Cheltenham betting offers</a> which help players maximise their winnings.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Bettors were rubbing their hands together in glee with the idea of a big payday thanks to the exciting Mullins/Walsh combination. Earlier that day, Faugheen, Un De Sceaux and Douvan had all won their races and bookies were nervous. However, a bookmaker never loses right? Well, apparently this is true as some divine intervention stepped in to save the day. There were numerous four-fold accumulators waiting to be paid out with a Walsh victory - but alas, it was not to be.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">There was some good news though - Annie are you okay? Well yes, Annie was just fine and ended up winning the Champions Hurdle the following year. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>A Different Type of Race for Victoria Pendleton</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Victoria Pendleton is well known for her racing prowess… on a bike. However, she seemingly wanted to try something a little different, so she decided to challenge herself by riding at Cheltenham. After the event, even she described the notion as ridiculous.. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Her jumps debut didn’t get off to the best of starts, as she was <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/victoria-pendleton-paul-nicholls-cheltenham-b2285176.html" target="_blank">unseated on her first ride over regulation fences</a>.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">However, as you would expect from an Olympian, she showed a huge amount of skill and determination… and managed to ride Pacha Du Polder to a respectable 5th place in the StJames’ Palace Foxhunters Chase. She may not have won gold this time, but she did describe it as the greatest achievement of her life… even better than the two gold medals apparently.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>An Amateur Gets the Biggest Prize </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">There are two races every British jockey dreams of winning… the Grand National and, of course, <a href="https://www.horsetrainerdirectory.co.uk/2018/02/cheltenham-gold-cup-tipsters-preview.html" target="_blank">the world-famous Cheltenham Gold Cup</a> - the pinnacle of the Festival. The idea of an amateur winning seems preposterous, right?
Well, apparently not. Let us introduce you to Sam Waley-Cohen, the owner of a dental practice who rode horses in his spare time.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">In 2011, he rode Long Run and guided him to victory against some huge competition including Barry Geraghty and AP McCoy.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">You can also take a look at all the other top British racecourses that jockeys compete in to try and make a name for themselves to make it onto the biggest stages in horse racing.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>A Truly Unforgettable Finish</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Next, we will look at a horse called Champ, named after Sir Anthony McCoy, who treated us all to a breathtaking win in the RSA Insurance Novices’ Chase.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">He was about nine lengths down as they all reached the final fence - and they were just coming up to the famous uphill finish. No one at that time believed that the Nicky Henderson-trained horse could catch up with and challenge Allaho and Minella Indo.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">But no one could have predicted that Minella Indo would go in tight at the last and that Alloho would simply just run out of gas. Through came Champ, rode expertly by Geraghty, and they treated us to a spine-tingling moment that is never going to be forgotten.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Defying the Odds: 100/1
There weren’t many people in possession of a winning betting slip in the 1990 Gold Cup. The 100-1 serious outsider, Norton’s Coin, was believed to have absolutely no chance of winning. However, he did just that for Sirrell Griffiths, the Welsh Farmer, who had only 2 other horses.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">But this wasn’t the start of an exciting journey, sadly. It was just a one-off. He won just one more of his following 18 races and then retired.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>The Big Three</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Best Mate certainly became a few punters’ best mate when he managed to match the legendary Arkle by winning his 3rd Gold Cup back in 2004.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">This created one of those iconic and unforgettable moments when a horse manages to capture the hearts and souls of the British public - on one of the biggest horse racing stages in the world.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Hopefully, the big 3 will be repeated for another iconic Cheltenham moment.

Such a rich history dating back to 1836 when a horse named The Duke won in style. In fact, he went on to win the following year. The Grand National takes place at Aintree, Liverpool, England. It is run over a distance of 4 miles 2 ½ furlongs. This left handed turf course sees a maximum of 40 horses aged seven years and older (rated 125 or higher by the British Horseracing Authority) jump a total of 30 fences. Two circuits are run for a win prize of £500,000 and total prize money of £1000,000. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Did you know the Grand National is watched by 600 million viewers and broadcast in over 140 countries across the globe. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Probably the most important question for spectators of this famous race is <b><a href="https://www.grandnational.org.uk/grand-national-bet-online.php" target="_blank">how to bet online on Grand National</a></b>. Perhaps you study the form, pick a favourite name or choose the most colourful racing silks. There are many and varied ways to find a winner! </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Many readers will remember famous past winners including Red Rum, who was trained by Ginger McCain. The only horse to win three times 1973, 1974 & 1977. This astounding horse, who never fell once in 100 races, was a household name and loved by race fans across the globe. For a horse that cost just 400 guineas, and struggled with foot problems and lameness, it was a truly remarkable story. </span><span style="font-family: helvetica;">One of hope over adversity. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Every winner has a story to tell. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">You may remember other winning horses including: </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">• <b>Tipperary Tim</b> (1928) who was the first horse to win at odds of 100/1. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">• <b>Foinavon</b> (1967) another surprise winner at 100/1 who was so far behind he had seemingly no chance of winning when there was a pile up at the 23rd fence which saw all but a few continue racing, including Foinavon, ridden by John Buckingham, who held the late charge of favourite Honey End. In fact, it is called the housewife's favourite because of its popularity. It is always good to bet responsibly and what you can afford to lose. The good side of the Grand National is that you can bet on a horse at huge odds and have a chance of winning. In fact, five horses have won at odds of 100/1. In the last 20 years almost half of the winners have been priced 20/1 or greater including prices: 100/1, 66/1, 50/1, 33/1, 33/1, 33/1, 25/1, 25/1 & 20/1. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Good luck if you are betting.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Photo: Pixabay (free)</span></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489712431603860135.post-46699680890416227782022-10-20T10:13:00.000+01:002022-10-20T10:13:35.332+01:00Visit Rae Guest's Website At HTD<br />

They could never replace the true experience of betting among friends at a high street shop, or trackside at a race. But the simple fact is that they are getting better and stronger every day, and becoming a better and smoother experience every day. Today, betting sites are better than ever, and if you’ve been wondering about whether to start trying it yourself—there has never been a better time. Sites like <a href="https://www.findbettingsites.co.uk/new-betting-sites/" target="_blank">FindBettingSites</a> show that every month in the UK alone roughly 5-10 new betting sites are launched, meaning existing companies must improve and adapt.
</span><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZfsCAvrquAE_Np16AWhboMnnMIXB232yQPHOt0YsVWSdjYVs-WC646fBumUqVyq1KP78VrCZQ5_Ca1MOeDHEza4HuZK2cyO6dhBf9NcylRhzu8oLqxGcfdz-nLtiju2SZAUXBxwX3uprRKaPKHBs_Lage16a9u1SPN8oZDebaELFUYHR40PTWww/s619/boomaker%20finding%20sites.PNG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="331" data-original-width="619" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZfsCAvrquAE_Np16AWhboMnnMIXB232yQPHOt0YsVWSdjYVs-WC646fBumUqVyq1KP78VrCZQ5_Ca1MOeDHEza4HuZK2cyO6dhBf9NcylRhzu8oLqxGcfdz-nLtiju2SZAUXBxwX3uprRKaPKHBs_Lage16a9u1SPN8oZDebaELFUYHR40PTWww/w400-h214/boomaker%20finding%20sites.PNG" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">
But why, exactly, are they better? </span><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Let’s find out. </span><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">1) <b>Security</b> </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">More than anything, we are all concerned about online security. Data breaches and cyber attacks are more rife and more common than ever, with around 39% of businesses in the UK being affected by some form of cyber attack each year. This is a huge problem and puts any data you have stored with that business at risk. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">With that in mind, regulation has ensure that betting sites are more robust in their security than ever. Government regulations require a certain level of protections with things like firewalls to stop widespread breaches. There are also multiple features to protect your own account, such as requiring complex passwords, as well as 2-factor-authentication which makes breach of your account virtually impossible. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">If security has been a concern for you in the past, betting sites are certainly taking huge steps to resolve these issues. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">2) <b>User experience</b> </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">But it’s not just security that puts people off betting sites. In the past, betting sites were not nearly as smooth to operate and navigate as they are today. In large part, this is down to the speed of available networks. Internet speeds are much, much faster today than there were 10 years ago. The median average today is around 42mbps. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">With mobile apps, too, the experience becomes a great deal simpler. Apps are far more intuitive to use, and mobile devices far more convenient to carry and use. They are intuitively designed, and app design has come a long way in the last ten years. They can now easily be picked up and used by anyone. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">So, if you’ve been put off in the past because you find apps and sites hard to use, they’ve come a long way to addressing that problem. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>3) Promotions </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Today, there are far more betting sites than there have ever been. The UKGC has issued licenses to around 2,800 different operators, covering a great many more online betting services, such as sportsbook and online casino. This means that competition has become rife, far more than it ever was before. This is always good for the consumer.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">One of the main ways that operators are now competing with each other is through <a href="https://www.topbettingsites.ie/free-bets/" target="_blank">promotions and free bets</a>. These can be really advantageous if you make the correct use of them. They often taker the form of X amount of money to bet with, for free, on your first deposit. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">For example, you might get £50 of free bets on a £10 deposit.
This is naturally very good for the customer and is another of the reasons that betting sites are better than ever. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>4) Self-exclusion </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">But beyond the architecture of the sites themselves, one of the other reasons betting sites are better than ever is the culture of responsibility which the industry has adopted. Self-exclusion programs, such as Gamstop, make it easier for problem gamblers to prevent themselves from gambling too much. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Whether or not you yourself can make use of such a service, it certainly speaks to the modern betting atmosphere and how it has changed for the better. Betting companies, in becoming more responsible, are making the betting process fairer on the customer, and thus giving consumers greater confidence in the fairness of the services provided. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">So, not only are betting sites becoming easier to use, granting you better chances of winning, and generally being more convenient and smoother, but they’re also becoming a lot more socially and culturally responsible. They are not doing this on their own accord, of course, but the fact is that gambling and betting are changing in major ways that simply make the practice safer for lots of people.</span></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489712431603860135.post-56849344884920824962022-06-20T11:00:00.003+01:002022-06-20T11:00:34.842+01:00Who are the Best Flat Racing Trainers in Ireland?<span style="font-family: helvetica;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwpOWddJ9CprMB-_VAfUiAQibiDsYBDoDQbcpp7xoLwG7AMCfaCOXRrW2u92RgH9Vb8XsKGyY_8rkia_qVkf1yHCPWflllNq-jpGneGZsX5Rnt6XqqvAfJat9xuwTjJpCR9ZByzDTm0EkE8k-rIx_qCUtjUu0FaTgy25GAZ56xufaKN-kDIQDM-g/s640/irish%20flag%20pixabay.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="427" data-original-width="640" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwpOWddJ9CprMB-_VAfUiAQibiDsYBDoDQbcpp7xoLwG7AMCfaCOXRrW2u92RgH9Vb8XsKGyY_8rkia_qVkf1yHCPWflllNq-jpGneGZsX5Rnt6XqqvAfJat9xuwTjJpCR9ZByzDTm0EkE8k-rIx_qCUtjUu0FaTgy25GAZ56xufaKN-kDIQDM-g/s320/irish%20flag%20pixabay.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Irish trainers have bolstered their reputation on the world stage by seizing glory in dozens of famous races in recent years. </span><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Their haul includes the Melbourne Cup, Cox Plate, Ascot Gold Cup, Epsom Derby, Breeders’ Cup Turf, Hong Kong Vase, Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and many more. The breadth of talent ensures that the domestic flat racing scene is highly competitive, keeping the Emerald Isle’s best trainers on their toes. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">These are the best flat racing trainers in Ireland right now:</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Aidan O’Brien </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The Ballydoyle maestro has loomed large over the Irish flat racing scene for many years. He initially made his name as a National Hunt trainer, saddling his first winner – Wandering Thoughts at Tralee – on the day his licence began. O’Brien was Ireland’s champion National Hunt trainer for five consecutive seasons in the 1990s, and he found fame when his star hurdler – Istabraq – won three consecutive Champion Hurdles at Cheltenham. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">He took over the Ballydoyle stables from the retiring Vincent O’Brien (no relation) in 1996, and he landed his first Group 1 success when Desert King won the National Stakes that year. The same horse won the Irish 2000 Guineas and the Irish Derby in 1997, giving O’Brien his first taste of Classic success.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">O’Brien won his first flat Irish champion trainer title in 1997. Dermot Weld finished ahead of him the following year, but O’Brien reclaimed the title in 1999 and he has won it every year since. During more than two decades of domestic dominance, he has claimed 14 Irish Derby victories, 10 Irish 1,000 Guineas wins, 11 Irish 2,000 Guineas triumphs and more than 350 Group 1 wins. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">He has also been crowned British champion trainer on six occasions, most recently in 2017, despite spending most of his time in Ireland. O’Brien has accumulated 39 Classic triumphs in Britain, including a record eight wins in the Derby at Epsom. He has also won the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe twice, the Cox Plate in Australia, three Hong Kong Vases, the Dubai Sheema Classic and six Breeders’ Cup Turf titles. His most famous runners include Galileo, Hawk Wing, Yeats and Rip Van Winkle. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Joseph O’Brien </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">O’Brien Jr. has already emerged as the greatest threat to his father’s dominance. He has finished second in the race to be crowned champion trainer in each of the past four years, despite only starting out in 2016. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The former Irish champion jockey announced himself to the world when he won the Melbourne Cup with Rekindling in 2017. That victory was notable, as Aidan O’Brien has never won the race that stops a nation, and his star stayer – Johannes Vermeer – finished runner-up to Rekindling, while Willie Mullins’ Max Dynamite was third in a famous Irish 1-2-3.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Joseph O’Brien clinched his second Melbourne Cup triumph in 2020, when Twilight Payment stormed to victory. Once again, his father had to settle for second place, as Tiger Moth could not catch Twilight Payment down the straight. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">If you are looking for <a href="https://racesharp.com/category/irish-tips/" target="_blank">Irish racing tips</a>, it is likely that you will find plenty of runners from O’Brien Sr. and O’Brien Jr. in the mix. Joseph O’Brien has also won big races in Britain, France and the United States, and he is still just 29 years of age, so the future looks bright. His younger brother, Donnacha, is also <a href="https://www.independent.ie/sport/horse-racing/donnacha-obrien-snaps-up-frankie-dettori-for-derby-41656398.html" target="_blank">starting to make waves</a>, cementing the O’Brien dynasty. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Dermot Weld </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Weld set a record for the most winners trained in Ireland in August 2000, when he landed his 2,578th winner. He has continued to add to that tally ever since, and he is still going strong at the ripe old age of 73.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">He was the country’s leading amateur rider on three occasions before becoming a trainer, and he is also a qualified vet. In 1993, Weld became the first European trainer to win the Melbourne Cup when Vintage Crop saluted. He has multiple winners at Royal Ascot under his belt, and he has also trained National Hunt winners at Cheltenham. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Weld, who was played by Brendan Gleeson in The Cup, secured his first Classic win all the way back in 1981, and he is still rattling off major victories, including the Breeders’ Cup Turf in 2020. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Ger Lyons </b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Lyons grew up in Co. Kildare – the thoroughbred county of Ireland. He spent four years as a National Hunt jockey in England, but he became a trainer after a nasty fall at Newcastle in 1989. Lyons’ first victory came at Navan in 1994, when Maelalong emerged victorious. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">By the end of 2018, had reached the milestone of 800 winners. He <a href="https://www.racingpost.com/news/landmark-triumph-as-ger-lyons-records-1000th-career-winner-with-offiah/508296" target="_blank">smashed through the 1,000 wins barrier</a> in August 2021. He has been one of Ireland’s most consistent trainers over the past two decades, and he has frequently been crowned the Irish All Weather Champion Trainer of the Year. He is currently fourth in the battle to win the 2022 Irish champion trainer crown, with a stronger win percentage than both Aiden and Joseph O’Brien. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><b>Jessica Harrington</b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Harrington is primarily a National Hunt specialist, but she has also enjoyed considerable success in flat racing. She earned more prize money than Lyons and Weld in 2020 and 2021, and she consistently ranks among the top five flat jockeys in the country. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">She has more than 80 horses in training at her yard, and some of her greatest successes have come via Jumbajukiba. Harrington is now 75 years of age, and she has won it all over jumps, but she shows no signs of slowing down. Her main ambition now is to emerge as one of Ireland’s strongest trainers on the flat. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">“In terms of ambition I want to win more classic races and races abroad. There are a lot of things on the hit-list I haven’t done yet,” said <a href="https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/racing/jessica-harrington-thinking-big-as-a-year-of-opportunity-beckons-1.4844431" target="_blank">Harrington</a>. “I’d like a Breeders’ Cup winner. I’d like to win big races in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, all sorts of places. I’ve got some very nice flat horses now, with proper pedigrees. They are very exciting.”</span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: xx-small;">Photo: <a href="https://pixabay.com/vectors/ireland-flag-national-flag-nation-162323/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Pixabay free for commercial use and no attribution but given</a></span></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489712431603860135.post-32983559134993057572022-06-15T18:50:00.001+01:002022-06-15T18:50:34.663+01:00Betway Insider: Are You Ready for the Norfolk Stakes Group 2?<p><span style="font-family: helvetica;"></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitqxn5EyICX25d7t1ZUqj-r79BmJulfiaZXoAl3_0h5AOuPY_bzxVwCv60-ubn_mp-AICjVdStOAQ00VAalaX-ta6-215_B5-5Pw6ZEQGQSFrXSDkzPdEUUlJpQf4aOud_Ak63aAevsA6KaQNr7mbg95orP4hUr2N0R7t3-D_c5RI-OXx5vAW77g/s628/Andrew%20Balding%20Ascot%202022.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="313" data-original-width="628" height="199" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitqxn5EyICX25d7t1ZUqj-r79BmJulfiaZXoAl3_0h5AOuPY_bzxVwCv60-ubn_mp-AICjVdStOAQ00VAalaX-ta6-215_B5-5Pw6ZEQGQSFrXSDkzPdEUUlJpQf4aOud_Ak63aAevsA6KaQNr7mbg95orP4hUr2N0R7t3-D_c5RI-OXx5vAW77g/w400-h199/Andrew%20Balding%20Ascot%202022.PNG" width="400" /></a></span></div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Royal Ascot 2022. </span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Are you ready for the Norfolk Stakes Group 2? Thunderous, galloping strides, devouring the turf, to conclude in an exceptional winner. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Five furlongs never seemed to go so fast! </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">If you love two-year-old horse racing then this is one race your will savour. The Flat turf season started on the 26th March. In that short time, we have filtered the cream of the crop to feature a race of eleven juveniles fit and ready for their day at the races. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">If you want the scoop on Andrew Balding's thoughts about Ascot, head to the <a href="https://blog.betway.com/horse-racing/ascot/watch-returning-to-royal-ascot-with-andrew-balding/" target="_blank"><b>Betway Insider</b></a> and see what he has to say about this amazing horse racing spectacle. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Don't miss out on his horses to watch at the 2022 meeting. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The <b>Norfolk Stakes</b> takes place on Thursday 16th June at 2:30. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">It's a race with a long history dating back to 1843. In recent years, it has been won by Perfect Power (2021), The Lir Jet (2020), A'Ali (2019), Shang Shang Shang (2018) and Sioux Nation (2017). </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Interesting to note that Andrew Balding has a two-year-old in this field. Bakeel, a son of the aforementioned Sioux Nation, won on his debut at Ascot, so a course and distance winner. In fact, he beat another classy horse in Whistle And Flute (trained by Eve Johnson-Houghton) who had won impressively on debut at Bath. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Bakeel races in the familiar silks of Sheikh Abdullah Almalek Alsabah and looks to hold a live hope over this flying five furlongs on going which is forecast to be good to firm. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">We have a class field of two-year-olds including two other unbeaten challengers: The Antartic, trained by A P O'Brien, who has won his last two races and Brave Nation, another son of the sire Sioux Nation, who won with ease on debut by six-lengths for Micheal Bell, who is no stranger to success in this race with The Lir Jet who tasted victory in 2020. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Andrew Balding is yet to win this race but he will be hopeful Bakeel can show his class today and this January foal can do the stable justice.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Good luck to all.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: x-small;">Photo: Betway</span></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489712431603860135.post-12798431742060838972022-03-15T11:14:00.002+00:002022-03-15T13:36:03.513+00:00Katie Walsh Vs West Ham - What it takes to be a Jockey <p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The Cheltenham Festival 2022 commences on the 15th March, and it's going to be a week of racing that punters and racing enthusiasts alike can't wait to devour.
