Racing wasn’t always Clive's passion. As a teenager he had his heart set on becoming a professional footballer, however, after spells at Middlesbrough, York City and Barnsley tragedy struck when several ankle injuries and operations marked the end of what was sure to be a glorious career.
Clive never gives in though and soon his passion turned to racing. During the 90s, Clive rode successfully as an amateur jockey for Sue Smith and Jimmy Fitzgerald, and has also ridden winners for Howard Johnson, Mick Easterby, Sir Robert Ogden and Richard Guest, whilst working as a National Accounts Manager for Blue chip companies, and then running a Livery yard with his wife Marti.
Always hungry for success, Clive has ridden many times under rules against professionals and partnered 20 winners, and in numerous point-to points and has amassed 100 winners.
Clive Mulhall Racing is a family affair with Clive’s wife, Marti also playing a huge part in the business. A successful point-to-point trainer in her own right, Marti's role as Assistant Trainer is often under estimated. Marti manages to assist Clive, run a successful business in the form of Scarcroft Hall Livery Yard, as well as being a mum to daughter Charlotte and son Liam.
We have a 4 furlong fibresand all-weather gallop allowing us to work the horses daily, as well as grass facilities. On the grass are birch fences and portable hurdles.
When the weather is bad, we can work the horses in our large indoor school. This is a great working space for young horses, enabling them to build a trust with people in a safe and secure area. It is also invaluable in enabling us to school horses over poles, hurdles and fences, teaching them and preparing them for their outdoor jumping. There is also an outdoor menage 45 x 25.
There is also an indoor 6 horse walker on a rubber surface.
We have individual paddocks for the horses so that they can be turned out daily, giving them the freedom to stretch their legs in a natural environment, and relax.
