A family-run business in the Scottish Borders. Situated in the bottom of a valley, it is the ideal setting for National Hunt training with hills a plenty. We have been based here for 25 years, but only started training 4 seasons ago, although we have always had Point-to-Pointers and Hunter Chasers.
George has been farming over 40 years where he has always kept Point-to-Pointers and rode in the occasional race. 10 years ago he had the privilege of owning ‘Geordie’s Express’ – a class above pointing and provided him with his first Cheltenham runner, ever since then he set about professional training and therefore took out a full license in 2008.
Here at Southdean we possess excellent facilities here on our 1000 acre farm providing a stimulating training environment. We have a mile’s frontage onto the river Jed, said to be the coldest river in Scotland.
We currently have a small string of horses with an excellent strike-rate throughout all of our seasons. This allows us to maintain a high-level of care and attention for all our horses on an individual basis.
Huge thank you to Dennis Penny who has supplied many of the photographs used on our website.
