Inspiration, determination, and motivation. Just three of the qualities that make Richard Fahey one of Britain’s top trainers, a man with an uncanny knack, a remarkable talent, of raising the cross-bar each and every season. 2015 was no exception. “Just how does he do that? ” is a commonly-asked question as Fahey’s astonishing exploits continue to get better and better. Nobody had been under any illusions that 2014 would take some beating; a personal-best domestic tally of 192 successes and earnings of £2,882,652. But Fahey is never content with his lot; he always strives for more. The target in the latest year was 200 winners and £3m in prize money. The outcome was all of that – and more. It was, by any standards, a truly remarkable year. Runner-up to John Gosden, who had Derby winner Golden Horn under his care, in the trainers’ championship, Fahey emerged as the most prolific winner-producer in the country; moreover, nobody has ever sent out more Flat winners in a British calendar year. His final 2015 score was 235 winners, which enabled him to equal Richard Hannon snr’s record tally in 2013, with mind-boggling accumulated earnings of £3,846,974 The consistency of his operation, admired year-on-year, again proved pivotal. In the months of April and May, he had 43 winners, the following two months produced 47 successes, while in August alone, he saddled an astonishing 43 winners.
